The Greene County Auditor has reported that the nearly $20 million bond referendum for additions to the Greene County elementary and high school buildings failed in Tuesday’s special school election. The measure required 60 percent voter approval to pass, but received shy of that at nearly 54 percent. Voters were also asked to select a board member to fill a vacancy left when former school board member, Susan Burkett, vacated the position in January. Mike Denhardt, who had been filling the position for the interim, was elected for the completion of the term in 2017 by a vote of 1,093 to 881 garnered for his opponent, Jonathon Hinote. The election recorded over 38 percent voter turnout with 2,193 ballots cast.
