BVU President, Fred Moore, Resigns After 21 Years Of Leadership

After 21 years at the helm, Buena Vista University President, Frederick V. Moore, yesterday (Thursday) announced his resignation from the office effective June 30, 2017. Vice President of Institutional Advancement for the university, Ken Converse, told Carroll Broadcasting this was not an easy decision for Moore.

Moore told the University’s Board of Trustees that in order to provide the best care for his adult son, Stephen, who has autism, his family will be relocating to Florida. Moore’s wife, Susan, is currently in Florida near the special-care facility their son has resided in for the past three years. Moore said this is a “gut-wrenching” decision as holding the position as the 17th president of BVU has been one of the greatest privileges of his career. Converse added that under Moore’s leadership, the university has developed a strong reputation both locally and nationally.

BVU has a partnership with Des Moines Area Community College in Carroll through their 2+2 program that allows students to receive a bachelor’s degree from BVU in Carroll in select majors. This is one example of the off-campus growth seen in recent years under Moore’s tenure. Converse said the search process will get underway as soon as possible. Moore promised the trustees that he was pledging, “To make this last year at BVU a productive one. I will work hard until my last day,” he said, “to lead our beloved institution.” He added he would do everything he could to ensure a smooth leadership transition. A search committee has not yet been formed, but an announcement of the membership of that group, the firm that will be retained to assist with the search and other associated matters is expected to be announced as early as next week.
