Each fiscal year the Carroll County Auditor’s Office makes public a full listing of county employees’ salaries. This year, a special request has been brought to Carroll County Board of Supervisors Chair, Neil Bock, for inclusion within that publication.
Bock said he didn’t know how to answer to that request because they can’t edit everything they do. However, he added, others may see it as deceptive because it doesn’t include the total cost of employing these individuals. Members of the board questioned setting a precedent for a request that could lead to others of the same nature. The issue, Bock said, is where they draw the line. Auditor, Kourtney Irlbeck, said what is made public is in complete accordance with the Iowa code, and the supervisors agreed that benefits and additional expenses incurred by employers is a matter of public knowledge and it is not a necessity to include it at this time.
