A Jefferson juvenile has been arrested and charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a serious misdemeanor, for damage that occurred to the Doreen Wilber statue on June 13. On Wednesday, Aug. 31 at approximately 1:23 p.m. the 13-year-old male was taken into custody from the Jefferson Middle School on an outstanding arrest warrant. On July 20, the Jefferson Police Department issued three arrest warrants for juveniles aged seven, 13 and 15. The warrants resulted from an investigation that included the review of video from an area business that provided identification of the suspects involved in breaking and bending arrows on the bronze statue. Restitution for the cost of the repairs is also being sought. The statue is a representation of Jefferson native, Wilber, who was an Olympic archer who won the first gold medal in modern Olympic archery at Munich in 1972.
