The Carroll Stadium Committee continues to make progress after narrowing down some of the features they wish included in the project. On Wednesday night’s meeting, Tim Veatch of FRK Architects out of West Des Moines presented four new proposals based on the recommendations given to the company at the last meeting. All four of the drawings have seating for 1,800 on the west side of the stadium, 750 on the east and a maintenance building in the northeast corner for official locker rooms and storage equipment. One thing all committee members could agree on is that 750 seats on the visitor’s east side was sufficient, and Parks and Recreation Director Jack Wardell was on the same page.
The most notable difference in the proposals is the location of the restrooms. Two of the drafts have the restrooms in separate buildings, and the remaining two have them located under the bleachers. After some deliberation, the committee decided that the next proposal reviewed will have restroom facilities under the bleachers, 2,000 seats on the west, two southern entrances and a 10-lane straightaway on the west side of the track. Veatch was unable to provide cost estimates for the project at the meeting, but he will bring them to his next proposal at the end of September. The Carroll Stadium Committee meets next on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Adams Elementary in the School District Board room.
