Keaton Otto of Manning not only got to witness history being made at the annual Governor’s Charity Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday, Aug. 13, he also got to participate. Otto’s steer, County Mounty, was sponsored by the Iowa Bankers Association and sold to Knupp Farms for $4,250, to add to the over $244,000 raised in the record-setting event. The 34th annual steer show also featured a record-setting single steer sale at $35,000 for Escalate, raised by Jacob Stalzer of Haverhill. The Iowa Beef Industry Council and the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association sponsor the event with all proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa. The money will be used to provide a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children. There are Ronald McDonald houses in Des Moines, Iowa City and Sioux City.
