Carroll Rec Department Will Sell Used Equipment And Change Shelter House Rates

The recent upgrades and renovations at the Carroll Rec Center included the purchase of several new pieces of fitness equipment. Parks and Recreation Director, Jack Wardell said many area residents have approached him about whether or not the used machinery will be put up for sale. He says they basically have two options, the first would be a public silent auction.

Although he is strongly recommending they use the silent auction process, Wardell added they could put any unsold items on the once-monthly Carroll Machinery Auction. They will be selling six treadmills, four ellipticals, two Arch trainers and a couple of spinning bikes. The staff will be examining the equipment and setting minimum bids. Another change Wardell has initiated is the increase in rates for the city’s shelter houses at Northeast, Northwest, Maple, Rolling Hills and Veterans Parks and to make those reservations on a first-come, first-served basis. The current rate is at $15 per day for open shelter houses, $30 a day in the summer for the enclosed shelters and $35 a day during the winter. Users, Wardell said, may not be aware of the level of service they are receiving for such a reasonable price.

The new rate that will be implemented for any reservations made now for use of shelter houses in 2017 will be $25 per day for the open shelter houses, $40 a day summer use of enclosed shelters and $45 a day during the winter. Wardell said that any reservations that were made prior to this week and are paid in full will be honored at the old rate.
