A local hero will be going up against the Carroll Merchants this Friday, July 8 playing with the U.S. Military All-Star team. Andrew Leonard, a U.S. Air Force veteran, graduated from Carroll High School in 2005 and served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He learned about the All-Star team this summer after seeing a Carroll Merchants flyer. Leonard missed the deadline to try out for the Merchants, but he decided to contact the All-Star team and tried out. Leonard has been playing with the team since early June and was recognized as the MVP of Tuesday night’s game against the Springfield Sliders. Before the game, both the Merchants and the U.S. Military All-Star team will be hosting two meet and greets. The first chance to meet the teams will be at 11:30 a.m. at the National Guard Armory and will last until 1:30 p.m. The second meet and greet will be before the game at 6 p.m. at Merchant Park with first pitch to follow at 7:30 p.m. All the players on the Military All-Star team pay their own expenses throughout the season.
