Phones to Carroll city offices were out until just a little after 10 a.m., but according Director of Public Works, Randy Krauel, city crews were awakened and put to work very early this morning (Wednesday) when a storm with reported wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour made its way through the area.
He said crews are providing details that several different areas across town have downed trees, limbs and power lines.
Krauel said property owners need to be aware that damages to trees in the right of ways alongside the streets are their responsibility. The city will be cleaning up and hauling away debris from the streets, but those in the right of way will need to be cleaned up and disposed of by the property owners. He and his crews have made several trips to the landfill and recycling center and Krauel says they are geared up for the influx of waste materials that will need to go across the scale for disposal. City crews are expected to have the streets cleaned up within a day or two, but he has not yet toured the parks, cemetery or golf course. He says they have damage, but is unsure of the timeframe for clean-up. In addition to the wind damage, Krauel said they had call-outs on both water and wastewater last night.
Operations at both water locations are fine according to Krauel. As clean-up continues, questions can be directed to City Hall at 792-1000. The National Weather Service is saying that thunderstorms are likely again tonight, with the possibility of some of those being severe.
