Carroll County Supervisors Approve Legal Fund Payment For Defense In Water Works Lawsuit

This morning (Monday) a motion was made by the Carroll County Board of Supervisors to officially commit to a $5,000 donation to the Iowa Drainage District Association for the legal defense fund in the Des Moines Water Works lawsuit against Sac, Calhoun and Buena Vista Counties.

Mark Beardmore held his ground, voting no today as he had done in a preliminary vote last week. Before this official vote took place, the Supervisors wanted to get more information on where the payment should be made. Gene Meiners contacted the Sac County Board to get that direction. He said a major Ag supporter of another drainage district had to be disavowed because of a requirement to make full, public disclosures.

Meiners added that the fund is set up to cover the lawsuit against all three counties, but he believes Sac County is charged with managing that fund. The board directed the money for this payment to be drawn from the legal defense fund.
