Faulty Wiring Cause Of Glidden Apartment Fire

The Glidden Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of smoke at 303 Arizona Street at approximately midnight this morning (Tuesday). Fire Chief Tom Weber said when they arrived, they found a great deal of smoke coming from the roof of the four-unit complex. The crew first made contact with residents who had reached safety and learned one of the four was still inside. They were able to get that person out safely and proceeded to cut holes in the roof of the structure and had to remove most of the ceiling in one apartment to extinguish the flames. A thermal imaging camera was then used to locate and extinguish hot spots. Weber said the fire originated from a fault in the main electrical feed to the building. One apartment sustained heavy damage, including structural damage to the rafters. The other three apartments sustained only minor smoke damage. No injuries were reported and all residents were relocated for the night as the power to the structure was cut off and to ensure their safety in the event there was any rekindling. The Ralston Fire Department assisted at the scene and Carroll County Emergency Services stood by to assist with any injuries or any issues created for responding personnel from the excessive heat. Crews were on the scene for approximately two hours and fifteen minutes.
