School is out for the students, but President of Kuemper Catholic Schools, John Steffes, says summer doesn’t slow down for everyone. There is a lot of dust still flying in the front entryway of the high school as that renovation continues to take place, and Steffes said they are excited to introduce a new feature to the sanctuary area at the front of the building.

The pocket watch, Steffes said, is an important part of Kuemper’s history that needs to be shared.

This piece is also a way to engage the students, not only in knowing more about their foundation, but also a symbol of how what they do over the course of time has important ramifications for the future. Steffes said they want all of the seniors to reflect on this watch, on how special it is to attend Catholic School and the sacrifices Father Kuemper made. As the students leave Kuemper, the watch will now become a central part of the graduation ceremonies.

An open house for the new entryway is expected to take place later this fall and Steffes said the watch will be introduced to the public during that event.
