On Sunday, May 15 new sculptures will officially be unveiled for display at the Bell Tower Plaza in Jefferson. The art pieces were created by local artists for the Ring Out for Art contest sponsored by Jefferson Matters: Main Street and Home State Bank. Artists Tim Adams of Webster City, Whitney Kibbie of Emmetsburg, Ben Britton of Zearing, Roger Aegeter of Jefferson, Nancita Wernett of Guthrie Center, and members of the Greene County Motorcycle Charity of Jefferson were selected as six finalists for their design proposals which required the artists to incorporate a bell element in their design.
The sculptures will be on display through June 30 and during the 37th Annual Bell Tower Festival, June 10-12, people will be asked to vote for the People’s Choice Award and the second and third place honors will be given out. The winning design will then be announced June 11. Prize money will be awarded to first place in the amount of $2,000, second place $1,000, and third place will take home a $500 prize; all provided by Home State Bank. The six sculptures will all be on display on the north side of the Greene County Courthouse until June 30, 2016 with the three selected prize winners remaining at the plaza through May of 2017.
