The Sac County Sheriff’s Office has responded to two separate accidents involving multiple vehicles on Highway 175 west of Lake View in the past few days. The first incident involved four vehicles and occurred on Friday, May 6, at approximately 8 a.m. at the intersection of Quincy Ave. and Highway 175. Fifty-six-year-old Luann Noriss was westbound on Highway 175 in a 2005 Chevrolet van and was stopped waiting for a car turning south with two other cars stopped behind her. The fourth vehicle, a 2008 Chevy Tahoe being driven by 28-year-old Amanda Johnson of Rockwell City, did not see the stopped cars. She rear-ended the 2006 Buick driven by 44-year-old Carolyn Carnes of Lake View, which was pushed into the 1993 Buick LeSabre driven by 17-year-old Hannah Moldovan of Sac City. No injuries were reported, but Johnson was charged with failure to stop in a safe distance.
The second accident took place at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, at the intersection of Highway 175 and Boulders Drive. Thirty-three-year-old Tasha Tigges of Carroll was westbound on Highway 175 and stopped, waiting to negotiate a left turn onto Boulder Drive, when her 2005 Pontiac Grand Am was struck from behind by a 2009 Chevrolet driven by 26-year-old Emily Oloughlin from Spencer. A third vehicle, a 1992 Buick LeSabre driven by 26-year-old Brittany Liechti of Wall Lake, swerved to avoid the collision and struck debris in the roadway causing damage to her car. It was determined that Oloughlin was distracted by her phone. She was charged with failure to stop in a safe distance. Tigges and her 11-year-old passenger were transported to Loring Hospital in Sac City with non-life threatening injuries. The Lake View, Ambulance and Police Departments assisted at both accidents.
