The Glidden Wellness Center has become a source of pride for its community and Glidden’s city officials are hoping to duplicate the enthusiasm as they make plans to build an all-season shelter house in partnership with a yet-to-be-named donor. The proposal places the building on the east side of the parking lot at the Aquatic Center Park, and City Clerk Suzy Danner says everyone involved foresees the building serving as a midsize event venue.
The park currently has an open-shelter house, but it’s uncertain, she says, as to what would happen to the dated building.
At their meeting on Monday night members of the Glidden City Council approved the hiring of the Emswiler Architect Firm which helped design the Wellness Center. The architectural firm will create plans for the all-season shelter house taking inspiration from similar buildings in Breda and Manning. Danner says officials hope to complete the project prior to August of 2017 to coincide with Glidden’s Sesquicentennial Celebration.
