Two men were killed in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 30 near 222nd Street, east of Grand Junction at approximately 6:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7. The Iowa State Patrol reports that 36-year-old John Jacob Twombly of Des Moines was driving a 1989 Chevrolet Corvette eastbound on Highway 30 and lost control of the vehicle on a curve in the roadway. The Corvette went through a guardrail and down a steep embankment on the north side of the road, striking a tree and causing severe damage to the vehicle. Twombly and his passenger, 26-year-old Alexander Joseph Sharer of Boone were both killed in the accident. The incident remains under investigation, but alcohol is believed to have been a factor. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Greene County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene.
