A Des Moines woman escaped serious injury in a single-vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, on Eagle Ave. near 250th Street, northeast of Kimballton. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office reported that 24-year-old Kasie Rae Simpson was traveling south on Eagle Ave. when she lost control of the vehicle and entered the east ditch. She hit a culvert, which caused the vehicle to go airborne, striking a tree. The vehicle came to rest on the toppled tree. Simpson refused medical treatment, but was transported to the Audubon County Jail and charged with Failure to Maintain Control, Open Container, No Insurance and Failure to Carry a Registration Card. She was later released on a cash bond.
