Jefferson bell tower inspires collaborative poetry project

Views from atop the Mahanay Bell Tower in Jefferson can inspire people to do a great many things. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the tower as a landmark and organizers behind a collaborative public poem hope you’ll be inspired to contribute a verse or to in order two create the community born ode. Citizen and visitors alike can contribute by writing their poetic lines into a writing grid which can found with a submission box at the tower’s observation deck.

Those inspired lines will then all be gathered in the fall and handed over to Iowa artist David Williamson who is collaborating to help tell those stories just waiting to be told. Submission boxes can also be found at Homestead Coffee & Bakery and the Jefferson Public Library. Submitted verses from all locations will be gathered at the end of September.
