Audubon County Sheriff, Todd Johnson, has issued warnings of another scam being carried out in the area. A local resident reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be with the Social Security Administration. They told the resident there was going to be an increase in their benefits and they needed their personal information for processing. The caller requested the individual’s social security number and banking information. Sheriff Johnson says the Social Security Administration will not call about benefits and they will never ask for this type of personal information over the phone. If you receive such a call, hang up, and if you have questions about your Social Security benefits, you can call their toll free number at 800-772-1213.
