Board Of Supervisors Discuss Sauk Rail Trail Encroachment

Jason Christensen, Director of Carroll County Conservation, attended this morning’s (Monday) Carroll County Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss a boundary encroachment along the south side of the Sauk Rail Trail in the Maple River area. Christensen said, after speaking with Carroll County Attorney, John Werden, it was determined a request to approach the landowner on the encroachment would need to come from the Board of Supervisors and not the Conservation Board. Christensen said he understood the landowner of record, Merlin H. Loew, would then be contacted by the County Attorney about the issue. Supervisor Mark Beardmore said it was past time to take care of this and Chair, Neil Bock, explained the ownership of the trail easement area and why these steps are necessary.

Supervisor Dean Schettler said the issue was broached again by the group in charge of working to maintain and improve the trail and they were deserving of the board’s support.

Christensen added the Conservation Board did have specific plans for this area and are looking into the possibilities of a trail head there in the future. The board of Supervisors approved a motion to authorize the County Attorney to address the encroachment and supervisor Dean Schettler will accompany Christensen in meeting with Werden to discuss the options in moving forward.
