Pickup driver hits overpass bridge pillar in Sac County

Authorities with the Sac County Sheriff’s Office, the Early Fire & Rescue, and the Sac City Ambulance all responded to the scene of a single vehicle accident on Monday afternoon which occurred at the Highway 71 and Highway 20 overpass bridge. The accident happened around 2:23 pm as 70 year-old Charles G. Robichaud of Fort Dodge was traveling south on Highway 71 just north of the Highway 20 overpass.

As the 2017 Ford F-150 Robichaud was driving approached the overpass the vehicle crossed into the northbound traffic lane, struck the south bridge pillar, and continued south before coming to a stop in the east ditch. Robichaud was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake with non-life threatening injuries. Officials with the Sac County Sheriff’s Office believe Robichaud may have fallen asleep behind the wheel; he’s been charged with failure to maintain control. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers also assisted at the scene.
