Jefferson Police identify driver who left the scene after damaging gas pump

Two deputies with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the Jefferson Police Department, and the Jefferson Fire Department all responded to a possible fuel leak at the Kum & Go Store at 303 North Elm Street in Jefferson on Monday afternoon. The incident began around 3:39 pm when a vehicle struck one of the island fuel pumps causing enough damage to bend the fuel pump over. The vehicle left the scene before authorities arrived. Upon their arrival members of the Jefferson Fire Department were unable to find any leaking fuel.

Meanwhile the Jefferson Police Department investigated the incident and identified a 2005 Pontiac Bonneville which was determined to have been the vehicle which backed into the gas pump at the station. The vehicle is owned by Sandi Cook of Coon Rapids and was operated by Robbie Anthofer. Technicians are scheduled to examine the gas pump within the next few days in order to provide an estimate of the damages to the Jefferson Police Department. The Bonneville suffered very minor damages in the incident.
