Carroll County Conservation is celebrating Earth Day a little early this year with a fun family event at Swan Lake State Park this Saturday, April 16. The Earth Week Carnival will have around a dozen games to play including water balloon launches, squirt gun races, putting greens and more along with sand art and face painting. Conservationist Matt Wetrich says if kids don’t win on their first try they shouldn’t get discouraged.
Tickets for the games will be sold at the event with the funds going to support educational programing. A couple feathered friends, a barn and screech owl, will be a part of the day’s learning experiences with presentations by SOAR at 11:15 am and 1:00 pm. Kids can also get their picture taken with the birds. A kayak will be raffled off and people can also enjoy a grilled lunch which, Wetrich adds, sets an example for others by using eco-friendly products.
The free event will be open from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm this Saturday at the Swan Lake Education Center.
