Tony Konkler retired from the Carroll Police Department on Feb. 29, after 28 years with the force and a total of 42 years in law enforcement. He has submitted nomination papers to run for the Carroll County Board of Supervisor’s District 5 seat in the Nov. 8 general election. He says things have just fallen in to place to make this the right time to use his experiences in public office.
He says the biggest strength he will bring as supervisors is the fact that he has been involved in government for his entire career. He says he knows there is a lot for him to learn, particularly with the issues dealt with in the rural areas, but he is ready, willing and eager to learn more. Konkler, who has been attending meetings to facilitate his knowledge growth and to get up to speed says he sees the jail as one of the top priorities for the short-term.
He says that the current board is doing a great job and he believes he will fit in well with the group. He wants people to know that his past experiences and education will only help with his growth and his ability to adapt to a new role.
Konkler’s campaign will begin with him getting out to meet people face-to-face as well as a phone campaign to give the district residents a chance to get to know him better. With two Republican candidates, Konkler and Rich Ruggles, vying for the District 5 seat, both names will be included on the Primary ballot on Tuesday, June 7. Konkler said it is one of those years that you just can’t predict what will happen, so he urges people to make their choices known by taking the time to vote in June.
