On Monday night members of the Carroll Stadium Committee voted unanimously to recommend the inclusion of artificial turf as part of an emerging plan to build a new football stadium facility in Carroll. By going with artificial turf members of the committee say it will open up the facility for multi-use purposes.
That’s committee member Brad Jorgensen, who adds that the turf field’s ability to function as a multi-use space is just not possible with a natural grass field; which needs time to recover from use during just the football season.
Jorgensen stresses that a rough estimate places the cost of an artificial turf field at around $1 million dollars, but hard numbers won’t be known for sure until soil boring samples are taken.
Soil samples are expected to be taken this spring. A few years ago a new press box and bleachers were erected at the nearby softball stadium which did require the application of fly ash to shore up the subsoil, so it’s a good guess the same process may be needed at the football stadium. The committee’s recommendation to include artificial turf will be included in a future proposal which will be presented to the school board at a future date once an overall design for the facility has been worked out. At their meeting the Stadium Committee also discussed possible designs for the bleachers on both the home and visitor’s section along with seating capacity. We’ll bring you more on those plans in a future broadcast.
