Crawford Co. awarded $110,000 transportation grant to support daily commuters

Crawford County recently was awarded a $110,000 Career Link transportation grant offered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). The grant program will support the operating expenses of daily commuter transit services of Western Iowa Transit in order for Monogram Foods employees residing in the Denison area to travel to Harlan for work. The Career Link Grant Program is designed to break down employment barriers by providing funding to assist with operational expenses relating to transportation to and from work as well as educational opportunities.

Eligible applicants of the service must meet income guidelines and reside in a “non-entitlement” city with populations under 50,000. Transportation services to Monogram Foods is already up and running with daily departures at 4:50 am and 5:45 am with the service also open to anyone at published general public rates. The grant utilizes Community Development Block Grant funding sponsored by Crawford County and authored by Region XII Local Assistance Staff.
