Hold it Sister! Everything you need to know about Urinary Incontinence and your Health is the title of the next session in the St. Anthony Regional Hospital “To Your Health” series of community education programs. Dr. Maria Hernandez, urogynecologist will host the event on Wednesday, March 16 at Santa Maria Winery. Historically, women’s health issues are not something society has been willing to discuss, Hernandez said. This is an exciting time for women and our goal through this program is to create an avenue for open dialogue, shed some light on solutions and ensure women don’t have to suffer in silence. As many as one in three women experience loss of bladder control or urinary incontinence, which keeps them from enjoying many activities. However, this is a common condition following pregnancy, childbirth and menopause. Hernandez says no single treatment works for everyone, but many women can find improvement through simple lifestyle changes or medical treatment. Hernandez will share the latest scientific information and attendees will learn more about the common types of urinary incontinence, common symptoms, causes and risk factors as well as steps for diagnosis, treatment, management approaches and surgical procedures. Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. with the program getting underway at 7:30 p.m. Registration for this free community event can be done by calling St. Anthony Regional Hospital at 794-5243.
