Construction at the new office entryway at Fairview Elementary School in Carroll is approximately 95% complete and it was hoped the entrance would be able to open before the end of this month. However, the project has been delayed. Superintendent Rob Cordes reported to the CCSD school board on Monday that following an inspection by the State Fire Marshall personnel will be unable to occupy the area, as of now, due to a safety feature that has yet to be installed.
The firewall requires a special metal frame with inserted safety glass so until it arrives on site the office area will remain closed. Landscaping is also being considered for outside the new office entrance, but any plans will have to wait until the weather permits. There was a slight delay in construction inside in the new gym due to rerouting of some heat vents, but it’s otherwise on schedule. All the walls have received one coat of paint and the installation of the wooden gym floor is currently waiting on the base concrete to cure.
The gym floor’s installation will take approximately six weeks once it arrives on site; allowing time for the floor to settle before a predicted opening by the second week of June.
