A protest involving police and community members took place outside of city hall in Denison on Wednesday afternoon. KTIV-TV in Sioux City is reporting the protests are centered on described lewd images which were allegedly created on a computer by the city’s Police Chief, John Emswiler. Chief Emswiler has been accused of making the pictures, which weren’t meant for others to see, including some pictures that some may consider racist or pornographic.
Denison’s City Attorney says Mayor Daniel Leinen investigated the allegations and disciplinary action was determined to be appropriate. Leinen administered that discipline in accordance with city policy, but he’s not saying what the punishment was citing legal liability reasons, nor will he comment other than to say that the “correct protocol” was used. Mayor Leinen also stated he does not agree with what Chief Emswiler did and that the chief was reprimanded accordingly for his actions. Emswiler declined to comment.
