When there’s snow on the ground children seem to have an endless supply of energy to build snowmen and snow forts, get into snowball fights, and amazingly enjoy the cold. On Wednesday, February 17, why not bring that energy inside to learn more about winter weather phenomenon during the Knee High Naturalists – Snow & Ice program. Children ages 2 – 4, along with an accompanying adult, will be able to participate in crafts, activities, and enjoy a snack from 9:30 am – 10:15 am or at 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm at the Conservation Building in Hagge Park.
During the identical sessions Sac County Naturalist Megan Cooks says kids will be able experience snow and ice up close and personal by making new discoveries at work stations. Kids will learn about the frozen precipitation’s composition and why salt can melt it. Also the Sac County Conservation Center has just received some youth size snow shoes so children can experience walking on the snow instead of sinking into it. The Knee High Naturalists program is free of charge, but preregistration is encouraged by calling 712-662-4530 or by emailing sccbnat@frontiernet.net. Each session is limited to 16 children.
