Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Schedule For Weapons Permit Courses

Legislation passed in April of 2010 and enacted in January of 2011 made significant changes to Iowa laws regarding permits to carry weapons. One of those stipulations is that anyone applying for a permit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of how to properly handle firearms, either through certified firearm’s training courses, through small arms training in the US Armed Forces or peace officer certifications. The Carroll County Sheriff’s office routinely holds weapons permit classes that fall under these guidelines. In January, they have scheduled classes for applicants seeking a new permit as well as for refresher courses for permit renewal in the Carroll County Courthouse court room on the top floor. The next class will begin at 10 a.m. this Saturday, Jan. 16. Other classes are available at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18 or on Thursday, Jan. 28. Courses to renew will last from 45 minutes to one hour and costs $30. Those seeking a new permit will receive instruction for one-and-a-half to two hours at a cost of $50 for the course. Applicants need only attend one class. Additional information and application forms can be found by following this link: Carroll County Sheriff’s website. Applications may also be completed during the course.
