Yesterday, the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services enacted a two month delay on plans to hand over management of the $4.2 billion Iowa healthcare program for approximately 560,000 poor and disabled residents to for-profit insurance companies. Democratic Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, said they made the right call. “The Branstad Administration’s proposal has been a runaway train from the beginning,” Clinton said, “and would have jeopardized core services for more than 500,000 Iowans.” She added it is a shared responsibility to strengthen programs rather than putting benefits at risk, and until Iowan’s questions about the quality of service and patient-provider relationships have been answered, she will not support the plan.
