It’s taken some time to organize, but strategies to address needed repairs and updates at The Carroll Athletic Field have started to gain traction and will be discussed tonight (Monday) by members of the newly created Carroll Stadium Committee. The facility serves both the Carroll and Kuemper School systems, and Carroll’s Superintendent Rob Cordes explains why the decision was made to form a committee now and why the school boards needed to pass a resolution in order to get the ball rolling.
Back in September the Carroll School Board reached out to community members who were asked to serve on the committee. With their membership now confirmed Carroll School Board President Duane Horsley says this is only the first step to getting organized.
No one other than the school boards could start the process since the facility is located on school district property. Horsley says by revisiting the issues he hopes the community will come together to back the improvements at the 50 year old facility.
Representatives from both schools, the City of Carroll, and Des Moines Area Community College will be in attendance at tonight’s meeting. The group will form subcommittees and brainstorm ideas working with the understanding that the stadium, and the surrounding area, is a focal point for the community. Representatives for the Carroll Community School District include Brad Jorgensen, Chad Ross, Tom Farner, Chuck Diesbeck, and Greg Perkins. Kuemper Catholic Schools’ representatives include Jair Mayhall, Scott Tigges, Terry Axman, and Lisa Irlbeck. City of Carroll representatives include Gerald Clausen and Jack Wardell while Joel Lundstrom will serve as a representative for DMACC.
