Farmers in the Elk Run Watershed, which includes north central Carroll, southeast Sac and southwest Calhoun Counties, can learn how to get involved in a new state-funded water quality project on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Agriculture’s Clean Water Alliance, the Iowa Soybean Association and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship are partnering with these farmers to address nutrient losses and demonstrate a farmer-coordinated approach to conservation. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey, and water quality experts will discuss project goals and explain priority conservation practices with little or no out-of-pocket expenses. The Elk Run Water Quality Initiative Kick-off will be held at the Legion Hall, 208 Main Street, in Breda from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided and reservations are requested. RSVP by Friday, Dec. 11 to Janean Carey at 515-334-1032 or by email at jcarey@iasoybeans.com.
