Carroll Firefighters called to Fairview Apartments after reported gas leak

The Carroll Fire Department was called to investigate a reported gas leak at Fairview Village Apartments on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 12:30 pm. The suspected leak was reported in building 610, but upon arrival firefighters were unable to determine the source. Fire Chief Greg Shreck says a thorough check of the building was performed using special monitoring equipment specifically outfitted to detect natural gas, however, sensors were unable to detect the presence of any gas.

Later firefighters were able to determine that the building was not serviced by any natural gas lines, but say residents did do the right thing by calling authorities. Shreck says officials are unsure as to what the odor detected by residents was exactly, but sometimes other smells can be mistaken for the pungent, rotten-egg like odor added to make natural gas easier to detect which is colorless and odorless in its natural state. Carroll firefighters were on the scene for around 20 minutes before returning to the station.
