Two newcomers to Carroll City government had thrown their hats into the ring for the At-Large City Council seat that was coming open with Dr. Eric Jensen’s run for Mayor. In Tuesday’s election, Brandon Vonnahme took an early lead over opponent Mike Curtis in the absentee voting, and that trend carried through for the rest of the day. Vonnahme is more than grateful for his win.
Vonnahme added he hoped that part of the reason for the higher voter turnout was a result of a recurring theme throughout his campaign.
When it comes to moving forward, Vonnahme said he is going to run his term like he ran his campaign. He is not going to base decisions solely on his own opinions. He will continue to have an open door and will talk about any issue with anyone. He is excited to see how the council will be communicating with the people of Carroll through this new dynamic. First, however, Vonnahme says there is some more work to be done before he takes on this new role in January.
Vonnahme would also like to thank his wife and his campaign committee for their hard work and support throughout the campaign, as well as the community for their encouragement and the faith they have placed in him to do what he says he will do. Vonnahme will be joined in January by newly elected council member Misty Boes who defeated Tom Tait in the second ward. Carolyn Siemann retained her fourth-ward seat in Tuesday’s election in a close race with opponent Barb Toohey.
