Jefferson, along with seven other Iowa communities, was selected to participate in an Image Assessment by the Main Street Iowa organization. Consultant Justin Hill of Bloomfield spent a day in Jefferson checking out first impressions of downtown as a “professional visitor.” Hill then met with stakeholders providing a first-glance assessment and a follow-up final report which will be used to determine the next steps in the process of rebranding the community. Angie Pedersen, Tourism Director for Greene County, also collaborated on the assessment providing online and print collateral.
Another visitor from Main Street Iowa, Tim Reinders, also spent a day in Jefferson visiting with five local building owners and checking out the business’ front façades. Unger Insurance, Doc’s Stadium, Ace Hardware, RVP~1875, and the Jefferson Library requested the free service which is offered to Main Street Communities. After his visit Reinders will submit rendered façade designs, along with information requested by the participants, back to the building owners. So far twenty-two Jefferson businesses have taken advantage of the rendering services.
