A donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, contacted members of the city council in Lake City wishing to make a monetary donation in order to place a flagpole and a memorial plaque at the city’s new swimming pool. City Clerk Lee Vogt says the donor is connected to Lake City, but currently lives in Ohio.
The city is looking to purchase a wind resistant flagpole, lights, cement for the base, and an “In Memory Of” plaque which will then be repaid by the donor. Vogt says the placement of the flagpole will also benefit the public.
The proposed location is on the southeast corner near the bathhouse outside the fence. Current cost estimates for the flagpole, cement, and electrical are between $2,700 and $3,100 while an estimate on the plaque is being researched.
