Every flu season is different so that flu shot you got last year may not protect you against this year’s viruses. It’s recommended that children under the age of 5 and adults over the age of 65 receive a flu shot, but it’s a good idea for everyone to get the vaccine in order to help stop the spread of the virus. Julie Town, Clinic Coordinator with Carroll County Public Health, says they’re offering influenza immunizations during a walk-in clinic running now through the end of the year.
Nationwide there is a shortage of the nasal flu-mist immunization this season due to reduced production according to Town. She says the clinic ordered 400 nasal-mists, but only received 150 with most already spoken for through appointments. Despite the shortage Town recommends not delaying your immunization as the injectable flu shot is available. The cost for a flu shot at the clinics is $30 and most insurance plans will cover the cost.
Medicare and Medicaid are also participating insurances. Town says Carroll County Public Health will offer around 40 flu clinics in conjunction with various business located throughout Carroll County before year’s end. For questions or more information call 712-794-5408.
