It was determined a few years ago that The Audubon Public Library was in need of new shingles. At Monday night’s city council meeting a bid submitted by Twin Construction for approximately $34,000 was approved; meaning the building will soon be reshingled. City Clerk Joe Foran says the cost covers not only new asphalt shingles, but also a new gutter system.
The new roof will maintain the aesthetics of the old one, but officials are hoping that during heavy rains water will be more efficiently directed away from the building.
Last year steps were taken to better water proof the foundation where the addition met the original building and officials hope the new gutters will add to the redirection of groundwater. A decision on when to start the project is still up to the Audubon Library Board, but it will also depend on the construction crew’s schedule. Foran says it is a good possibility that the new roof could be put on yet this year.
