Whether searching for a job or to fill a position the average unemployment rate will affect how fast those employment opportunities are filled. Right now the national unemployment rate stands at 5.4%, while Iowa’s average is 3.8%, but in Carroll County it’s much lower.
That’s America’s Job Honor Awards Founder and Director, Kyle Horn who says that that low unemployment in Carroll County puts businesses in a unique hiring situation.
He says those individuals who either have a language barrier, past criminal history, or other past issues have trouble overcoming the stigma and can often be overlooked.
In an effort to help those job seekers who are slipping through the cracks Horn founded the Job Honor Awards.
It’s those success stories which bring Horn the most joy. Last year was the first year the Iowa Job Honor Awards were given out.
Nominees for the 2015 Iowa Job Honor Awards were submitted through the organization’s website at www.jobhonor.com. This year’s top Iowa honorees included Haley Equipment of Carroll in the employer category along with Workforce Solutions of Burlington. Employee honors went to Edward Ailey-Roberson of Ankeny and Angela Avila of Afton. Their stories were captured in short film format and can be viewed at the website.
