Michigan Man Suspected Of Shoplifting Hits Car As He Flees From Carroll Bomgaars

On Monday evening at approximately 9:37 p.m., the staff at Bomgaars in Carroll reported a suspected shoplifter to the Carroll Police Department. Staff members said they confronted 24-year-old Joseph Carl Kasun of Eau Claire, Mich. after he set off the alarm at the front door of the business. Kasun fled to his vehicle and attempted to leave the property, but collided with another vehicle parked in the store lot before driving away. Staff reported the make and model of the vehicle as well as the direction of travel to the authorities, who were able to pull Kasun over at the intersection of Crawford Street and Highway 30. A search of the vehicle did not turn up any stolen items, but a substance suspected to be cocaine was found. Kasun was charged with operating while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance. Additional charges are pending test results from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) lab.
