Iowa Attorney General Suggest Ways To Reduce Risk When Online Shopping

Black Friday has come and gone, but many consumers are putting themselves at risk still trying to find the best deals while shopping online. The Office of Iowa Attorney General, Tom Miller, has a few tips to protect yourself against identity theft and bad merchandisers. Shopping on sites you know is the number one way to avoid trouble while shopping this holiday season. Check the web address of the online store before providing any personal or financial information. The address should begin with “https”, meaning the site is secure or have a padlock icon in the address bar of your browser. Many companies offer free trials during the holidays, but many of them will renew your membership automatically as part of the trial. One of the best ways to keep an eye out for suspicious activities is to review your financial statements. By checking those, you can determine if your card has been compromised or an incorrect amount was charged to your account. By following these tips, the holiday season can be a little less stressful for the shoppers out there.
