A crowd gathered for the Guthrie County Memorial Day Service-Avenue of Flags in Panora this morning (Monday). U.S Senator Joni Ernst,  who served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Iowa National Guard, addressed the community members, honoring the service members who passed last year by presenting flags to the family members, dedicating and raising the flag that was flown over Washington D.C on the Veterans Auditorium’s main flag pole, and awarding Specialist Dustin Teays the Purple Heart for being wounded during his deployment.
