Carroll At Sergeant Bluff Luton- Class 4A Region 1

Sergeant Bluff Luton 10

Carroll 5

The Tigers played well on Saturday but may look back to a couple of situations in the game as the Warriors pulled away late to advance into the Regional Final Vs LeMars on Tuesday. Carroll had bases loaded in the 5th inning with no outs and scored a run to tie the game at 5 but missed a couple chances to take the lead late and put pressure on SBL. The Warriors responded with a 5-run bottom of the 5th to open up a comfortable lead with only 6 outs to go. The defense had been very good until the 5th when two Tiger errors helped keep the rally going. Carroll loaded the bases again in the 7th with no outs and weren’t able to score.

Carroll came out the aggressor with Chloe Gallegos hitting her first home run of the season to deep left field. There was no doubt that ball was gone when it left her bat. After Sergeant Bluff Luton tied the game with a run in the bottom of the 1st the Tigers went on the attack again in the 3rd. Camryn Schable hit a rope down the left field line for a single, Ava Gross reached on a fielder’s choice. Chloe Gallegos who finished a monster game with 3 hits drove in her second RBI of the game scoring Schable. Ashley Onken homered to deep left field to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead. It could have been a 3-run home run but the Tigers had a base runner called out at 3rd for interference. Onken finished the game a triple shy of the cycle. Carroll only scored one more time and that was in the 5th.

Sydney Haakenson controlled Warrior hitters until the 4th. You look back at the start of the bottom 3rd and the first 3 batters went to full counts and that may have taken the steam out of Haakenson. She allowed just 3 hits until the 4th when Sergeant Bluff Luton scored 4-runs to take their first lead at 5-4. Camryn Schable came in to pitch in the 5th with the bases loaded and no outs and worked the Tigers out of trouble. The damage was done by then as the Warriors had extended the lead to 8-5 two more runs in the 5th to lead 10-5.

Chloe Gallegos, Ashley Onken and Camryn Schable all finished with 3 hits. Carroll had 10 hits with Vanessa Ayala singling in the 3rd. Onken had a 2-run home run and a double while Gallegos had a solo shot and a pair of singles. Schable had 3 singles. Sydney Haakenson took the loss going 4+ innings allowing 8 hits and 10 runs with 7 earned. Camryn Schable pitched the final 2 innings allowing 2 hits with a strikeout and an intentional walk.

Carroll ends the season 7-11.
