Kuemper At CYO Tournament At Gehlen Catholic
Kuemper finished 2nd at the CYO Tournament this season going 4-1 on the day. Their only loss was to Gehlen Catholic who won the tournament with a 5-0 record bringing home their first tournament championship in 28 years. Kuemper was very close to bringing home another title falling in a tight 3 set match to Gehlen Catholice. Kuemper won the 1st set 22-20 before falling by 3 in set 2 and suffering a 17-15 loss in the 3rd set. Kuemper wasn’t really challenged in their other matches during the day winning all four 2-0 and not allowing more than 14 points in any set. Remsen St Mary’s scored 14 in both sets and Storm Lake St Mary’s had 14 in set 2 while Heelan scored 13 in both sets. Kenzie Schon and Kamryn Venner were both named to the All-Tournament team.
Kenzie Schon paced the offense with 36 kills followed by Kamryn Venner with 28, Sophie Badding 24 and Frannie Glynn with 14 while Julia Mikkelsen was also in double digits with 10. Ashlyn Badding broke triple digits in assists with 123. She had all but 4 of the teams assists on the day. Kenya Prescott led the back row with 72 digs followed by Avarie Pedelty with 28 and Ashlyn Badding and Kenzie Schon each with 20. Sophie Badding had a team high 7 blocks while Ashlyn Badding added 4. Schon led the serving race with 6 aces.
The 4-1 day improves Kuemper to 13-7 on the season as they prepare to host Creston OM on Tuesday.
