LeMars At Carroll- Class 4A Region 1

LeMars 50

Carroll             47                    (2 OT)

Missed opportunities may be the story of the game for Carroll as they fall in the Regional semifinal on Saturday night. Carroll had a terrific game on the defensive side holding LeMars 8 points under their season average at the end of regulation and even 5 points under after the 1st overtime. At the same time Carroll missed the front end of one and one’s several times in the 4th with the lead, finishing the game 9-19 from the line. Carroll also had trouble making shots at the rim and left around 20 points on the floor with missed layups with several of those being wide open. It wasn’t for a lack of effort, it was one of those nights when the ball didn’t go in the basket. Meanwhile LeMars got a clutch basket late in the 1st overtime that sent the game into the 2nd OT. Karlee Schiff is a 22% shooter from behind the arc and stepped into a 3 with her team down 41-38 and drained it to tie the game. They entered the 2nd overtime tied at 41 and LeMars quickly went ahead only to see Carroll come back and build a 47-44 lead. Missed free throws and a couple turnovers opened the door for LeMars and they took advantage going up 48-47, and they were able to salt it away from the line. Carroll had a chance at the buzzer and tried to draw a foul but there was no call and the game ended.

The game started with both teams going on runs. LeMars jumped out 10-2 only to see Carroll go on a 17-0 run to lead 19-10 early in the 2nd quarter. The lead grew to 21-11 before LeMars answered with an 11-0 run to take a 22-21 lead and would have led at half if Laura Sweeney didn’t hit a runner to end the half and put Carroll up 23-22. Kennedy Lein kept the Tigers in it during the 1st half with 15 of the teams 23 points including 4-3’s. Lein would finish with 22 points and 6 rebounds. No other Tiger scored in double figures with Gabi Hammer with 8 and Ella Collison with 7. Ashley Onken made several key plays keeping the Tigers in possession of the ball and pulled down a team high 11 rebounds. Carroll largest lead was in the 1st quarter at 21-11 while LeMars largest lead was 10-2. The game had 9 lead changes and 4 ties with the first at 36 late in regulation. Carroll wraps up the season at 12-10.
