The State Wrestling Tournament wrapped up Saturday afternoon with the last of the matches for the five area wrestlers who will be on the podium on Saturday night. Ben Schmitz of Kuemper wrapped up a brilliant career with a 5th place finish at 120 pounds in Class 2A. Schmitz lost Saturday morning in the consolation finals 5-3 to Kolten Crawford of Union Laporte but bounced back in the 5th place match for a nice 7-4 win over Brock Moore of Forest City. Schmitz finished his senior season at 43-6. Nate Thomsen of East Sac is our highest place winner this season taking home 4th place at 132 pounds in Class 1A. Thomsen was sharp in a well wrestled 3-2 win over Cullen Koedam of West Sioux in the Consolation Semifinals moving into the 3rd place match. This was a rematch for Thomsen against Easton Larson of Don Bosco. Thomsen had lost by Tech Fall 16-1 in the quarterfinals to Larson and would fall in the 3rd place match by fall in 0:40. Thomsen closed out a great career and senior season going 46-6. Jordan Khommanyvong of South Central Calhoun finished 8th in Class 1A at 138 pounds. Khommanyvong was in a tight match before losing by Fall in 3:31 to Trae Ehlen of Mount Ayr. Khommanyvong finished his junior season at 36-6. Blake McAlister of South Central Calhoun had a tough 2-1 loss in the Consolation Semifinals in Class 1A 160 pounds, falling to Gabe Carter of New London. He wrapped up his sophomore season taking home 6th place after losing 13-2 to Elijah Wagner of Lake Mills in the 5th place match. He ended the season at 46-6. The final wrestler of the day was Luke Mosinski of Audubon in Class 1A 220 pounds. He finished his senior year 40-11 and in 8th place after losing by Fall in 0:45 to Gideon Rollene of Northwood Kenssett. Mosinski had lost 7-4 to Rollene in the 1st round on Thursday. Ben Schmitz of Kuemper lost 5-3 to Kolten Crawford on Union LaPorte City At 120 pounds. He will wrestle Brock Moore of Forest City for 5th Place.

Nate Thomsen of East Sac won 3-2 over Cullen Koedam of West Sioux at 132 pounds.
