Carroll At Kuemper

Carroll 24

Kuemper 10

The Carroll Tigers have broken a couple losing streaks entering the game on Wednesday and they were focused on snapping an 8 game losing streak to Kuemper that dated back to July 8th, 2015. The Tigers smashed that losing streak by scoring 16-runs over the last 3 innings and holding off Kuemper after the Knights rallied to make it close heading into the 6th.

Carroll scored first but Kuemper came out swinging in the bottom of the 1st and grabbed a 3-1 lead. Truman Haukap and Kyle Berg singled, Will Schenkelberg doubled driving them in. Shenkelberg then scored on an error to make it 3-1.

Carroll responded in the 2nd and scored 5 times on just 1 hit to go with 2 Kuemper errors and a walk and hit by pitch. The game remained close until Carroll looked like they locked it away scoring 5 times in the top of the 5th. They nearly had more as Slade Sibenaller, who hit a 2-run blast off the scoreboard in right earlier in the inning was about 2 feet short of adding a grand slam home run that would have made it 17-4 heading into the bottom of the 7th. Sam Poland made the catch deep in left and kept the Knights hopes alive.

Kuemper responded in their half of the 5th. Alex Loew had really controlled the game since the 1st inning but Kuemper got to him in the 5th and ended up scoring 6-runs on 4 hits and 2 Carroll errors. Kuemper could have made it closer but Carroll turned a 5-3-2 double play with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs.

The score heading into the 6th was 13-10 Carroll High. Ryan Johnston led off the inning with a single and the landslide was on. Colby Christensen singled, Luke Woosley reached on an error, Tory Felman on a fielder’s choice, Treyton Goins singled, Nick Haberl had a 2 RBI single and Slade Sibenaller singled to drive in the 5th run of the inning. Kuemper went in order in the bottom of the 6th and Carroll added 6 more runs in the top of the 7th.

Both defenses struggled at times but Carroll was much more consistent with only 3 errors while Kuemper finished with 7. The Tigers were able to get through with only 2 pitchers while Kuemper was forced to use 6.

Carroll finished the game with 21 hits. Colby Christensen had 3, Treyton Goins was fantastic added 5, Slade Sibenaller had 3 and nearly a grand slam home run. Nick Haberl added 4 hits and like Sibenaller drove in 6 runs. Kuemper finished the game with 8 hits with Truman Haukap and Will Schenkelberg each having a pair.

Carroll improves to 6-9 and will host Ballard on Thursday while Kuemper slips to 11-8 and will host MVAO-COU in the playoffs on Saturday night on KCIM.

Coon Rapids Bayard At Newell Fonda

Newell Fonda 4

It was a nice bounce back win for the Crusaders after a tough road loss on Tuesday at Webster City. The win over a previously undefeated Mustang team should give the Crusaders plenty of confidence with the post season starting on Saturday.

Josh Ramirez two run double to left field in the 1st inning got the ball rolling. The Crusaders picked up 13 hits but also played small ball as Tanner Oswald extended the lead to 3-0 in the 2nd with a squeeze bunt, scoring Gabe Obert. Aaron McAlister has been an RBI machine the last couple weeks and added 2 more to his portfolio in the 4th helping the Crusaders build a 6-0 lead. Newell Fonda responded with a pair of runs in the 5th but Coon Rapids Bayard answered with a 4 spot in the top of the 6th.

McAlister led the Crusaders attack with 3 hits and 3 RBI, Ramirez added two hits and 2 RBI while Oswald finished with a pair of RBI. Coon Rapids Bayard spread out the pitching duties with Peyton Clipperton, Ramirez, Lance Clayburg and Kale Pevestorf doing the duties.

The win improves them to 12-4. They will host Glidden Ralston on KIKD 106.7 on Saturday in the 1st round of the playoffs.
