Carroll was sharp in their opening round win taking advantage of miscues as they avenged a loss from 10 days ago to advance into the District Final on Monday at Dallas Center Grimes. Carroll had 9 hits with 4 of those coming in the 5th inning. Prior to that they scored 8 runs on 3 hits and were benefited by 6 Atlantic errors. The game winning run by Nick Haberl was scored on a wild pitch. Carroll scored in all 5 innings getting 2 in the 1st and 2nd, 1 in the 3rd and then 3 in the 4th and 5th.
Ty Nissen was sharp on the mound giving up 4 hits and 1 unearned run in 5 innings. He struck out 8, with 2 strikeouts in the 2nd and 4th inning and 3 in the 2nd. The defense played well minus one play where they had 2 errors in the 3rd allowing the Trojans to score their lone run. The defense left the field for the final time in the 5th on an L-5-3 double play as Treyton Goins caught a line drive at 3rd base and threw out the runner at 1st.
Carroll came up in the 5th need 3-runs to end the game. Goins, Tory Feldman and Haberl singled with Haberl picking up an RBI. Jack Troutman added a single to score Feldman and Haberl scored with Nissen at the plate on a wild pitch to end it.
